Somatic therapy is a holistic approach to healing that addresses emotional and mental health issues by working through the body. The term somatic derives from the Greek word soma, meaning “body,” reflecting the therapy’s central belief: that our bodies store emotional experiences—especially trauma—which can later surface as physical symptoms or psychological distress.
Rather than focusing solely on thoughts or behaviors, somatic therapy brings us out of the mind and into the body, using this as a gateway or trailhead to uncover and release tension, emotional pain, and trauma. It offers tools for self-soothing and self-regulation by helping us reconnect with ourselves on a physical level and find what is there. Through this process, we can recognize what feels out of alignment with our core values and beliefs, uncover deeply held negative experiences or moral wounds, and support deeper healing and emotional integration.
