Entheogens

The term entheogen is a more recent and respectful alternative to psychedelic. It was introduced to distinguish the sacred and medicinal use of these substances from the recreational associations of the 1960s and 70s, helping to shift public perception and reduce the lingering stigma. Rooted in ancient Greek, entheo means “full of God” or “inspired by the divine within”—derived from en (within) and theos (God or spirit). This name honors these powerful plant teachers for what they are: catalysts for deep insight, spiritual connection, and transformation.

Entheogens have the capacity to quiet the ego, dissolve denial, and illuminate blind spots and conditioned patterns that no longer serve us. They often accelerate self-awareness and personal growth beyond what traditional methods can achieve. In the expanded states of consciousness they evoke—where neuroplasticity is heightened—we gain access to broader perspectives. It’s as if we are lifted to a 30,000-foot view, free from the constraints of habitual thinking and limiting narratives. This often leads to greater empathy, emotional clarity, and renewed understanding of ourselves and others.

These experiences are not undertaken recreationally, but with intention, care, and reverence. They require the right set and setting—mental readiness, a safe environment, and the guidance of a trained facilitator. As science catches up with ancient wisdom, institutions like Johns Hopkins, the VA, and other leading medical centers are exploring these medicines for their remarkable potential to help those suffering from PTSD, depression & anxiety that’s resistant to medication, unresolved or unprocessed trauma of all types—especially in populations such as veterans, first responders, survivors of abuse,

as well as those suffering from diseases of despair including chronic illness and addiction, or who have been given a terminal diagnosis, grappling with the fear of dying.

It is widely reported these days that people are travelling to Mexico, Costa Rica, and undisclosed sites in America as well, to participate in these transformative experiences with plant medicines like ayahuasca and psilocybin; Ketamine Clinics are popping up all over the place and MDMA is being used in couples therapy to allow for expanded empathy, among other therapeutic uses. Many, however, lack the support before and after these journeys. At Amayesing You, we offer that support for those called to explore these sacred journeys. Our services include Preparation before the experience and Integration afterward—both crucial components of true healing. These sessions are delivered with skill, presence, and respect, helping you navigate your process with clarity and safety, and are done in a series.
